How timid Leo learned to trust people again

When Leo first arrived at the shelter in Donji Andrijevci, his distrust of the world was evident in every movement. He spent his first days squeezed into the furthest corner of the box, with a look full of caution and fear of every new sound. ### Patience as the only remedy

We knew that trust couldn't be rushed. Our volunteers spent hours simply sitting beside him in silence, offering treats with an open hand and letting him know that he was finally safe here. From week to week, small steps became big victories:

• For the first time, he himself approached the fence at the sound of his name. He allowed a brief cuddle behind the ears without backing away. He finally wagged his tail joyfully when he saw the walking leash. > “Each dog carries its own story and its own scars, but with enough patience and love, each of them can find joy again.”

Happy ending

Last weekend, after three months of recovery and socialization, Leo went to his new home. His foster parents tell us that he already has a favorite spot on the couch and that a morning walk has become his favorite part of the day.
