How to recognize abuse?
Abuse is not always obvious at first glance. Carefully observe the animal's behavior and physical condition. These are the most common signs that a dog needs your help.
Extreme Emaciation
Visible ribs, spine, and pelvic bones. The dog appears lethargic, weak, and has no access to clean water and adequate food in its environment.
Physical injuries and scars
Inappropriate living conditions, such as a short chain, cause neck wounds. Presence of open wounds, limping, purulent inflammation, or lack of fur due to stress and illness.
Abandonment and isolation
Dog left in a public area, tied up in front of a store for hours, or closed in a hot car. Constant stay in the dark and dirt without company.
Steps to report abuse
Follow these three key steps to ensure that the competent authorities can react quickly and effectively. Your discretion is important for a successful outcome.
Document the situation
Gather as much evidence as possible without putting yourself in danger. Photograph or record a video of the animal, the conditions it lives in, and the exact location. If the abuser uses a vehicle, write down the license plate.
Report to authorities
The first line of defense is an official report. Animal abuse and torture is a crime. Call the police at 192 in case of an emergency, or send a written report to the Veterinary Inspection with collected evidence.
